At Staffy, we are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a high-impact international project through an outsourcing engagement with one of our strategic UK-based partners.
In this role, you will act as a key technical contributor, designing and building scalable backend systems that power products used by small businesses globally. You will work on high-performance APIs, cloud-native architectures, and event-driven systems while collaborating with distributed teams in a fast-paced and highly technical environment.
This position is ideal for someone who sees backend engineering as a craft, enjoys solving complex architectural challenges, and combines strong technical fundamentals with a pragmatic, product-oriented mindset.
Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems and high-performance APIs.
Architect and develop event-driven microservices and asynchronous workflows.
Build secure, reliable, and maintainable server-side applications using Python.
Design and optimize PostgreSQL data models and complex database queries.
Implement cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services and infrastructure.
Develop and maintain integrations across distributed systems and services.
Ensure high code quality through automated testing and engineering best practices.
Collaborate with distributed teams and participate in technical discussions and architecture decisions.
Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining code quality and security.
Contribute to technical reviews, mentoring, and engineering excellence initiatives.
7+ years of backend software engineering experience.
5+ years of experience working with Python as a primary language.
Expert-level experience with Django, FastAPI, and Flask.
Strong understanding of SOLID principles, design patterns, and software engineering fundamentals.
Proven experience building and scaling REST APIs.
Deep expertise in PostgreSQL, database modeling, and query optimization.
Experience working with event-driven architectures using AWS SQS and SNS.
Hands-on experience with AWS services including Lambda, Fargate, EKS, and S3.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
Strong experience with automated testing frameworks such as Pytest or Unittest.
Experience working under Agile/Scrum methodologies.
B2–C1 English level with strong communication skills.
Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor or Claude Code.
Experience integrating backend systems with Salesforce.
Familiarity with observability tools such as Sentry.
Experience building CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions or AWS CodePipeline.
Knowledge of AWS IAM and security best practices.
Familiarity with OWASP security principles.
