About the Role
At Staffy, we are looking for a Backend Engineer to join a high-impact product team building scalable and modern backend systems.
In this role, you will work on designing and developing robust services, with a strong focus on backend architecture, data integrity, and system reliability. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams while also having a high degree of autonomy in your day-to-day work.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is passionate about clean and efficient backend systems, and is eager to continuously learn and adopt new technologies, including AI-assisted development workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain backend services using Spring Boot
Develop and optimize APIs and system integrations
Work with PostgreSQL for data modeling, querying, and performance optimization
Implement secure authentication and authorization flows (OAuth2, session management)
Collaborate with product and engineering teams to define technical solutions
Ensure code quality, scalability, and system reliability
Leverage AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code) to improve development workflows
Continuously improve system performance and architecture
Requirements
Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot
Solid experience working with AWS (cloud infrastructure)
Deep understanding of SQL fundamentals, specifically PostgreSQL
Experience implementing authentication systems (OAuth2, tokens, IdPs)
Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs
Strong understanding of backend architecture and best practices
Ability to work independently without constant supervision
Strong problem-solving skills and ownership mindset
Good communication skills in a collaborative environment
